According to the company, it will not collect any data within the applications, only the list of installed apps, and the collected information, will be used for things like improved “who to follow” suggestions, adding tweets, accounts, or other content to your timeline that in a bid to better target ads and more personal Twitter experience
"We are collecting and occasionally updating the list of apps installed on your mobile device so we can deliver tailored content that you might be interested in,"Twitter said in a blog post.
The company says it will inform you about this feature being turned on for your account by showing a prompt letting you know that to help tailor your experience, Twitter uses the apps on your device.
The feature has been updated on iOS devices and also integrate on Android.
The app update is opt-out, which means Twitter will start collecting information from users automatically unless they instructed tell it otherwise and if aren't interested in having your app list being tracked,
Twitter offers easy instructions on how to turn the feature off: iOS users can turn off the feature by tapping the gear icon present in the Me tab, followed by Settings and the account they’d like to adjust, then under Privacy, they can adjust the setting to Tailor Twitter based on my apps while Android users will have to tap the overflow icon followed by Settings and the account they’d like to adjust, then under Other, they can adjust the setting to Tailor Twitter based on my apps.
Additionally, you can also disable the feature by activating the Limit Ad Tracking or Opt out of interest-based ads settings on Apple or Android devices, respectively
Twitter assured its users that it will only track applications users have installed, not any data from within the applications. As it said,
"We are only collecting the list of applications you have installed. We are not collecting any data within the applications."
